Day 96 – A Year in Stitches 2017

April 6, 2017

Today has been exciting!  The last tornado warning and several thunderstorm warnings have been lifted (as of this afternoon).  My son got to escape the trailer classrooms used during the renovation of his high school and huddle in the main building’s hallways during the tornado warning.  Thankfully nothing happened!

While the sun is peeking out, I worked on adding palm fronds to my hoop.  After getting inspiration from Google images, I added my first branch.  I used a lighter green floss than I would on white fabric, but since I am working on a green linen, it works!

Day 96:

Stitch:  Straight Stitches, randomly stitched.

Fiber:  Sampler Threads from The Gentle Art in Spring Grass, single strand used.

Day 95 – A Year in Stitches 2017

April 5, 2017

A quiet, busy day.  Helped get my church’s food closet set up for tomorrow morning, went to get a zipper for a purse I am finishing up, and laundry!!  Later on today I will pick up the junior from school.

I did get the rest of my silk thread from The Thread Gatherer’s Etsy store….Here is a picture:

Day 94 – A Year of Stitches 2017

April 4, 2017

Today was Bible study day and going to the local needlework shop and picking up the framed Shepherd’s Bush “The Promise” piece that was over 15 years in the making….See what happens when I go through my craft room?  Here is the finished piece:

I used a suede mat to match another completed Shepherd’s Bush Christmas piece.  The two pieces will be hanging near each other.

While at my local needlework store, In Stitches in Alexandria, VA, I could not help picking up some new fibers!  Last weekend I ordered some Silk ‘N Colors from The Thread Gather on their Etsy shop.  The two colors I picked out were limited editions only through their site.  I picked up some more colors today at the shop.  Bright bold colors!!

So now to the daily progress!  I added bark to my palm tree, I guess I used a Satin Stitch in cotton floss….I  am not sure which floss or color, but I am pretty sure it is a Weeks Dye Works product.

Day 93 – A Year of Stitches 2017

April 3, 2017

Another quiet day today.  I have been working on a tote made from seat belt webbing, hopefully I will finish it this week.  Also, today is Opening Day for the Washington Nationals, so I wanted to make sure I was in front of the tv to see it!

Stitch-wise, continuing on my tree….

Nothing too foolish today…

Today and this week was sand….filling in the area of my hoop next to the wave.  Hopefully next week the tree will take shape and all the sand will be finished…..

Day 90 – A Year in Stitches 2017

March 31, 2017

A rainy day in Northern Virginia!  We need the rain, but I would really like to see the Nats play Boston today….Good thing it is only spring training….

Guess what!  More sand….I started plotting out my next move on the hoop because I need to figure out where the palm tree trunk will start, so I know were the sand will stop.  I guess I will add most of the remaining sand tomorrow and start the palm tree on Sunday.

After a busy morning sharing with 28 local families at our church’s food closet, I finished a stitching project unearthed while looking through my stash for fibers!

I found Blackbird Designs’ “Easter Parade” leaflet with fabric and fiber all ready to stitch!  So, earlier this year I finished the bunny from the pattern (omitting the border since I was using an embroidery hoop to finish!).  After I stained a wooden hoop, I finished the bunny, adhering to the frame and covering the back with a beautiful wool felt I picked up from Michaels.

Here it is with the a bunny friend in our living room on the piano.

The basket in between has a collection of eggs:  beaded, dyed when I was growing up, some with dried flowers, and my favorite, a Ukrainian egg from growing up as well.

For my main hoop, more sand….It looks like only sand this week, I will add palm tree next week.

Day 87 – A Year in Stitches 2017

March 28, 2017

Today was a busy day, not really doing too much, but I needed to pick up some interfacing that only the local quilt store carries, so that meant going in the opposite direction of my errands for the day.   After that successful outing (ending up getting more fabric!), I headed to a local jeweler to get a replacement watch band for a vintage turquoise watch that was my Mom’s.  I also found out that I could get a ring resized, a wonderful golden topaz (aka citrine) my Dad picked up while stationed in Vietnam and designed the setting.  That will be a future visit to the jewelers.  I wrapped up my errands by getting my hair cut!

So, today I added more sand to my hoop.  It looks like I will finish the sand and maybe start a palm tree this week.
