Day 93 – A Year of Stitches 2017

April 3, 2017

Another quiet day today.  I have been working on a tote made from seat belt webbing, hopefully I will finish it this week.  Also, today is Opening Day for the Washington Nationals, so I wanted to make sure I was in front of the tv to see it!

Stitch-wise, continuing on my tree….

Day 92 – A Year in Stitches 2017

April 2, 2017

A sunny quiet day.  After church, the family went to a used book store, leaving and taking books…

To start the new week, I decided to start on  a palm tree.  I used stem stitch to  work on one side of the trunk.

Day 53 – A Year of Stitches 2017

February 22, 2017

Today I decided to mix it up.  My hairdresser always asks if I want something different for my hair, and I always say, same as last time.  But, a couple of months ago I decided to step waaaay outside my comfort zone and add some color to my hair.  Now, do I add brown to cover up my streaks of silver hair that I have for a long, long time?  No, I go with PURPLE!  And not a lavender, but PURPLE!

Now that you are recovering from that picture, today my stitching was not that adventurous.  I decided to use a Perle  Coton #5 in a variegated green-blue for a grass feel.  I did use a new stitch, to me at least.  I was reading Mary Corbet’s blog post this morning about stem and outline stitches.  After doing some more research about the outline stitch, I decided to give it a try.  I liked the look of the stitch instead of the stem stitch for the grass.  Also, I don’t remember what color number today’s fiber is since I lost the label.  If you really need to know the color, check my past posts,  or comment below.  Thanks!

Day 53:

Stitch:  Outline Stitch

Fiber:  DMC Color Variations Perle Coton #5 in green-blue, single strand used.

Day 42, Week 6, YTD– A Year of Stitches 2017

February 11, 2017

Flowers continued this week.  I added sunflower buttons from a kit I found in my needlework stash.  The buttons are by the same artist that made the crow button from last week.  I also found a bee hive, pumpkin, pilgrim’s hat, and worm from more of her kits.  These were purchased BK:  before kids!

I also added new fibers to my stash this week.  After seeing all the beautiful threads people are using on their projects, I tried to find some locally.  I had no luck for the specialty threads, but when I stopped at Jo~Ann’s looking for suede for a church project, I lucked out finding some DMC Perle Coton #5.  Several colors were marked down in their “Color Variations” in both perle cotton #5 and cotton embroidery floss.  I used two colors in the #5 for this week’s stems, leaves, grass, and wind gusts.

Day 42:

Year to Day Ending February 11, 2017 – Week 6

Next week hopefully will be a new direction.  I may start a different hoop,  inspired from the book “Boho Embroidery.”  Come back and find out!

Day 39 – A Year of Stitches 2017

February 8, 2017

I am still enjoying Spring weather today, but clouds hide the sun today.  Snow and icy roads are forecast for the next two days….Weather!

This morning I shopped at the Capital Area Food Bank for my church’s food pantry, the Calvary Community Food Closet.  Every Thursday local families that qualify for free or reduced lunches at neighborhood elementary schools shop for groceries and other items.  Today I found chickpeas, mayo, and grapes!!  Later on today, I will help weigh surplus food local grocery stores donate to us.  Normally we receive ¾ of a ton of food each week!

For my stitching today, I added more wind, using the same fiber….

Day 38 – A Year of Stitches 2017

February 7, 2017

Today a taste of Spring came to visit Northern Virginia!  Right now it is over 70ºF….So in honor of the warm weather and the weather front that I know will be coming soon, I decided to add some wind to my flower garden.  I sketched a couple of swirls to back stitch some gusts in another fiber I purchased on sale this week.
